MY AOL FEATURE TODAY

Los Angeles Insider: Musician Lucy Walsh
http://www.rentedspaces.com/2010/03/30/los-angeles-insider-musician-lucy-walsh/
Musician Lucy Walsh has appeared on MTV's "Rock the Cradle" and been a back-up singer and piano player for many artists, including Ashley Simpson. Her talent is in the genes: She's the daughter of The Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh and counts Ringo Starr as an uncle. Finishing up her debut album, Walsh tells us why Los Angeles' Farmers' Market area gives her what she most likes in a neighborhood: privacy, hustle-and-bustle, and a sweet view of the Hollywood sign.

Name, Age, Occupation: Lucy Walsh, 21 - Again, Musician

Neighborhood: Los Angeles, Farmers' Market area

Abode: Two-bedroom suite. (Laughing) Isn't that another word for apartment?

How long have you lived in this neighborhood?
Five years.

What do you love most about your neighborhood?
I like that it's very busy. I really enjoy being surrounded by life and people. I thrive off that energy and, I don't know if that will change as I get older, but I love the hustle and bustle. If I go out and visit my parents, and they're removed from the city, I start to get anxiety because it's so quiet, you know?

I also love that I can look out my window and see the Hollywood sign, and I can look to my right and see snow-capped mountains and look another way and see the ocean.

Do you talk to your neighbors?

No (laughing)! I make a point of not getting to know any of my neighbors and if I do it's time to move. I've moved around inside my building three times. I just like to be left alone. I'm a bit of a hermit. I like to be in the middle of the activity and I like to keep to myself. I want to be able to do whatever I want and put on a clay facial mask and have no makeup on and I don't want to worry about people stopping by for a cup of sugar. The home should be very private; a place to unwind where people can't really get to you.

Best kept secret in the Farmers Market area?
Outside the Farmers market on 3rd Street there's a restaurant called
The Fiddlers Bistro and it's so, not trendy but they have great food. And, again, it's a place you aren't going to run into anyone there because no one cool goes there so I don't have to worry about running into the scenesters who are all down the street at Toast.

Also the
La Brea Tar Pits are right here, and it sounds really weird but I'm really into museums and touring for my music if I have a day off I explore and find a museum or an old plantation or something. The Tar Pits is a quiet place, and it's a neat spot. It's a park and it's tar pits and there are elephants. They've found so many fossils and bones in this area and now we live here, it's so cool!

Favorite way to spend a Saturday night in your neighborhood?
Actually I stay home all the time because I absolutely love being at home. But if I'm going out I like to go to the Farmers Market and get a coffee. And there is this sticker store there at the market so I like to splurge there and then come home and read a book with my cat. I drive my car which is sad because it's right down the street. I should walk, I so could walk, but I don't.

You are a California girl and a songwriter, so does Los Angeles influence your music?
I think that's why I like living in the middle of the city, and that's why I go out and find things because it gives me a lot of writing ideas. I try to use my surroundings in my writing. On my new album you'll hear a lot about living here. On one song called "Runaway" there's a lyric, "In the middle of the night, if you time it out right, you can float down Wilshire on a river of green lights." ... there's a lot in my music where you can hear about this city.

A LITTLE JESUS WITH YOUR EGGS ANYONE?

Today I went to the Gospel Brunch @ House of Blues in LA. It was an interesting morning activity...stuffing your face in the dark club and watching a high-energy show. Praise Jesus! The waffles were amazing, but the highlight was the lead singer in her white dress...lace and ruffles from head to toe. No matter you beliefs, this is a unique and uplifting way to spend a sunday morning.

MY FIRST TASTE OF THE SPOTLIGHT-1980s style

Check out this 'Baton Rouge' music video I did when I was a little kid-it was my first taste of the spotlight and i was hooked...i remember following the director around after my 2 scenes begging to be in more of it. I also fell out of that big yellow highchair during a temper tantrum take and almost broke myself.
